Down and Dirty: Critter Control
They're not only a nuisance. They can cause health problems and actually pose a threat to your family. So, who do you call to control those unwanted critters in your attic or crawl space?
Van Normand is the Gulf Coast's "critter gitter." He works for Critter Control.
Tammy Holland thinks she has an opossum in her attic.
"He definitely loves tearing the insulation, because we have that filtering down through the vents," Holland said.
He would be better, or she would be better served if someone caught him and took him back to their wildlife habitat.
It was just the job for Normand and he quickly figured out that Holland's unwelcome visitor wasn't likely a possum or any large animal. Normand analyzed the droppings and realized he was dealing with a much smaller pest.
"Some people claim they can distinguish between rat droppings and squirrel droppings," Normand said. "If they're side by side, I can, but when they are isolated by themselves."
Normand deduced that roof rats and squirrels were responsible for Holland's problems. With some properly placed traps, her critter problem should be under control in no time.
